Kong's Academy’s mission is to custom-build a math recognition system for each individual student.
Nowadays school education has many goals but customizing the learning experience for each individual student is probably not one of them. I remember vividly how I learned math from my dad in my early age. My dad used to be a Math professor in a college. I enjoy the feeling of learning from a good teacher who truly understands math and I appreciate the time my dad spent listening to my confusions. When I was in Kindergarten, he taught me 1+1=2.
"Why does 1 plus 1 equal 2?" I remember I asked.
"Because two is a name after one." My dad answered.
I was still confused. My dad could tell. " We define 'one' first, and then define 'plus', and then define 'equal', and finally we define 'two'." He added.
Learning is to build on one's own understanding. As an adult, we usually skip the fundamentals because we already remember them by heart, so they look so obvious to us. We may forget that our students, the young learners, may see things differently. Do you still remember the age when your kids were little and asking questions about everything all day every day? That is the learning spirit. We are driven by curiosity and are constantly seeking for answers. Every learner, however, learns differently. The answers, whether from books or teachers, must be truly accepted by learners so that they become the building blocks of one's recognition and knowledge system. It is especially true for math.
At Kong's Academy, I'm willing to discuss with every student about their own understanding in every math concept and topic. Once a student can explain why 1 plus 1 is 2 in his/her own language and recognition system, he/she can learn math well.
At Kong's Academy, I am here to listen and help.
