TABLE OF CONTENTS
At Kong's Academy, students enrolled in Basic Algebra class are expected to understand and be able to explain the FOUNDATIONS. That is to say, they should be able to teach other students of the contents listed in FOUNDATIONS. If not, this is where we are going to start from. With solid understanding of FOUNDATIONS, most students are hovering in familiarizing the SKILLS. This is usually the time students start to feel challenged because lacking of knowledge of STRUCTURE. They may do well in some quizzes but not always so. Without understanding STRUCTURE in basic algebra, students are like walking on a covered path -- whether the next step will land firmly or not depends on luck (to get a good score or not depends on whether they have done the problem before or not).
If STRUCTURE is so important, why they haven't learn it at school? This is because learning STRUCTURE is much harder than learning FOUNDATIONS and SKILLS. It requires full attention and some sort of abstract thinking skills. As time goes, a child may be able to control more of ones attention and develop more of ones abstract thinking skills. This is why even a student may not be able to get an A in middle school, when he/she goes to high school, he/she will suddenly feel middle school contents are so easy! So yes, time will help. But what if your child gets discouraged when he/she are not there yet? What if your child wants a good looking report card but he/she is just so close to an A? Mrs. Kong is here to help.
